Our steadfast commitment to elevating campus safety is top of mind as standards for safety facilities in Florida’s universities evolve. Recently, Design Lead & Partner Ekta Desai, AIA, and Principal Kasey Teimouri, AIA, presented at the SEC Police Chiefs and Emergency Managers Conference, held at the University of Florida Public Department (UFPD) headquarters. The new facility, a collaboration between Schenkel Shultz and McClaren Wilson and Lawrie, Inc., provided a platform to spotlight our site planning methodologies, programming, and processes aimed at fortifying campus police departments. Public safety leaders from across the region explored the latest crime prevention strategies, technological advancements, and design trends integral to our university public safety projects. Through the lens of the UFPD building, we highlighted its transformation from the initial site planning phase into a modern space that has become a vital resource in shaping the campus narrative. The crucial role university police facility design plays in ensuring the safety and protection of students, faculty, and staff, reflects the imperative Schenkel Shultz places on enhancing campus safety measures across diverse educational typologies throughout.
