Southwest Florida International Airport Terminal Expansion

Lee County Port Authority

The Terminal Expansion project at Southwest Florida International Airport has three main objectives: efficiency, convenience, and modernization. With heavy traffic, particularly during peak seasons, centralizing the checkpoints was a strategic move to enhance operational efficiency. By streamlining processes and creating this configuration, the design aims to improve the overall passenger experience. Additional focal points prioritize additional, expanding lounges and improved wayfinding systems.

Passenger flow and wait times are improved by advanced technology, enabling a faster and more efficient screening process. The terminal's layout is strategically planned to minimize congestion and facilitate seamless movement of passengers throughout the facility.
“Our history with the Lee County Port Authority at Southwest Florida International Airport has encompassed the two largest public works projects in Lee County’s history – the original Midfield Terminal Complex in 2005 and now this subsequent expansion.”

The design seamlessly blends the expansion with the existing terminal through modern materials and finishes inspired by Gulf coast beaches.
The planning and programming process also includes the implementation of additional retail and dining options. By incorporating more concession choices post-security, travelers will have several amenities to strengthen their terminal experience. To minimize disruptions, the project is carefully planned in phased stages, allowing the airport to remain operational throughout construction.
