Dexter Elementary School
Department of Defense Education Activity
Dexter Elementary School pays homage to Major Herbert J. Dexter, a Vietnam War hero of the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, whose sacrifice in the Battle of An left an indelible mark on his legacy. Replacing a campus that has served the Fort Moore Army Base for over fifty years, the new school celebrates his courage and the enduring spirit of service to the community.
The design thoughtfully integrates rich history while embracing the evolving needs of 21st-century education. Guided by the State Historic Preservation Office of Georgia, the building’s reimagined Spanish architectural influences reflect the region’s heritage, blending tradition with a modern, functional space.
Inside, the school fosters an environment of discovery and collaboration. Its flexible, innovative spaces transform the student experience, promoting exploration, teamwork, and personal growth for learners from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Here, students are not only prepared for academic success but are also equipped to thrive in a technology-driven world. Dexter Elementary School stands as a beacon of educational excellence, where each child’s potential is nurtured in a safe, supportive environment that cultivates both intellectual and personal development.
